Hello hair lovers!
If you follow me on my YouTube channel, then you may be aware of the fact that I occasionally post barbershop videos, where you can watch sped up and edited videos of my haircuts. For a while I was a consistent customer at Gentleman's Barbershop off of Babcock in San Antonio, Texas; after my preferred barber left his position I no longer continued to get my hair done at that shop.
I should mention that all of the barbers at that shop do great work; however, not everyone is very comfortable being filmed while they work, and being able to film the haircut is a pretty crucial component to uploading barbershop videos.
I finally had the opportunity to work with a local artist named, Luis Chevere, we found each other through Instagram when we were both featured on the Buzzcut Feed account. After seeing each others features and realizing that we were based out of San Antonio, we decided to collaborate on a haircut for both of our feeds. Took a few months to get it going since we both have such busy schedules, but on April 17th we finally had our first meet up! If you follow Luis on his Instagram you will see that his work is very European and he does a lot of asymmetrical cuts, with bold fades, as well as very messy and texturized top. I got to be his model for a one-on-one educational class as he was teaching a new barber a few techniques. I will once again model for him on May 7th for a barber/hair stylist event in San Antonio. As far as filming our collaborations we still have not had time to set that up, but I figured I'd still share our work for y'all to see. On my Instagram you can see daily posts and keep up to date with those haircuts.
⌘ For this specific cut Luis did a skin fade to a asymmetrical, textured, forward cut. He studied his techniques abroad and is bringing the styles to the states where they stand out. In San Antonio you can find Luis downtown where his shop is located at the Pearl Brewery. He did the top with hanzi scissors he specially had made, and uses a pomade to create the messy and textured appearance off the top. He uses the same pomade to select small pieces of hair that should be placed in a certain fashion to add to the chic look he strives for.
